I went to Jersey with Norman who is one of workers in Wighton House. Norman and I went on the 27th May until the 3rd June 2000. We stayed in the Grosvenor Hotel in St Helier. |
We went to the German Hospital and a young boy had a heart attack. The tyre of their wheelchair was flat so they got a loan of my wheelchair. |
When I went to Jersey 12 years ago I went to the underground Hospital and it was wet and very cold. You got the feeling of the men working in awful conditions with a wee shovel. But now it is like Madame Tussauds. It is warm and has a nice cafeteria and gift shop and it was very accessible for the disabled person as it is all over the island. |
This is where the Doctors and
Nurses operated on the German soldiers.
They had to do it in very bad light, the conditions were very poor and so was the hygiene. They had to use the same scalpel over and over again. |
The nurse looked after the soldiers after their operations so that they would be fit to go back to the war again. |
This is myself. This photo was taken by Norman as we were walking back from the German Hospital through the forest to the Hotel for tea. |
Because we were at the sea front it was dull but warm we went to a lot of places and the sun came out. |
I took this photo of my friend Norman at the center of the town, then we went sightseeing and after that we went back to the Hotel for tea. |
This is inside the French Fort which was never taken by the Spaniards and their soldiers. As you can see it is still very much intact today. |
It is now a keep fit place, and also a place for the children to play in now. |
