Read this account of 'A Woman's Place'.
Do you think things are still the same today?
No?
What are the differences?

Women's place:

A woman's place was in the house. A woman was there for her children to come home to and her husband from his work, and the meals were laid on the table when they came in....Women didn't work in those days like how they work now, with the result that the mother was always there, where nowadays some of the mothers are not there through no fault of their own, Some of them have got to work. Nowadays, in happy couples, the man helps with the cooking and the washing up and everything. But in our day that was the mother's place

Here is what another lady said about housework...

Well, the major changes - now you've got hoovers and washing machines. I mean everything's all run by electricity isn't it!! We had to do it all by hand. I mean you had to get down on your hands and knees! Nae wonder I've got a cock-eyed knee.... it's down on my hands and knees doing all the scrubbing.... whereas now they've got everything made for them haven't they?.........I think women today are lucky that they have all these different gadgets - microwave ovens - with the result that they dinnae have to cook the way that we had to cook. And I mean we would be cooking on open fires. And we didn't have the heating that they have now...
