The kitchen was really the centre of your home. Everything happened there. You didn't have a sitting room as such; you just had the kitchen- everything was there. It was like a big sitting room with the range at one side. At the window would be the sink and the coal bunker. The cooker, if you had one, would be at the side but most people did their cooking on the range. You would have a bed in the corner, If you were lucky you had a separate bedroom.
