  • Factories
  • Grocer's shop
  • Office cleaning
  • Whisky packer

Fishwives:

Then there were fishwives all over Edinburgh at different streets. Mainly outside the pubs- Easter Road, Richmond Street, West Port.
I had a friend whose mother & father were fish people and they stayed in Newhaven and we would go down there, maybe on a Sunday but the children weren't allowed to play They were so strict these fish people. It was mostly these fishwives who came up town on a Saturday with their buckies and mussels. They only sold just buckies and mussels.
The buckies were still in their shells...the mussels had been cooked in gravy. You had to have a pin to take out the buckies.
