Introduction

'Stories from St. Ann's' was created in the Autumn 2001 and Spring 2002 by the St. Ann's Reminiscence Group - elderly Edinburgh residents who meet weekly in St.Ann's Community Centre in Edinburgh's Cowgate. They are linked as a group by their love of this local area, stemming in all cases from their having spent at least part of their life as a local resident.

During the construction of this resource, the members of the group have shared their memories of the area, of its streets, its people, its shops, its images, its sounds and even of its smells…. They have drawn, painted, written, researched, discussed, contributed, edited, and, above all, have had fun….

We trust you will enjoy your visit to this resource - those involved in teaching can use it in theclassroom - those just wishing to browse will also find it of great interest. Our long-term vision is to build it into a wider educational and community resource for the City of Edinburgh, entitled Old Town /New Story. This will be an on-line archive of local stories, artworks, reminiscences and futuristic ideas made by local people from all areas of the City. As the ideas for this are still in the early stages of development, we would be interested in hearing from anyone who has an interest in contributing to this longer term vision!!
